December's Style Inspiration
Miroslava Mikheeva-Duma

Miroslava Mikheeva-Duma. Fashion editor of Harper's Bazaar in Russia. During December, I've really noticed her style and I think I've fallen quite in love with it. I adore the way she manages to mix vibrant colours and bold patterns with lots of neutral tones in such an interesting and fun way. Her style is sweet and innocent blended together with something rough and edgy: my absolute favourite combination. Just look for yourself...her gorgeous style speaks for itself!

Sorry for the lack of posting, my dears! I always kind of forget that Christmas time is crazy time. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and that you'll have a fantastic New Year's Eve. Thanks for all the comments and seasonal greetings...you guys are the absolute best x x x

Big Girls Flirt And Missbehave

"I ran into her [Fergie] recently and she came up to me and told me she has a girl-crush on me and she was like two feet tall and had a lot of makeup on but seemed really sweet.

What did you say when Fergie told you she had a girl crush on you?
I was like, “No, you’ve got to be kidding.” And she was like, “I do!” And was really flirty. And I was like, “I’m flattered.”

Get in line, Fergie Ferg, the Chloe-crush group ain't small let me tell you!

Eye Love Black Magic

A how-to video guide on how to achieve beautiful, black, smoky eyes. This look is a classic for me, though I rarely actually take the time or make the effort to do this look. And also, I dread the fact that my eye make-up will probably end up all down my face, or that I'll end the night with enormous panda eyes. But going through the make-up stages step by step with make-up artist, Daniel Sandler, has inspired me to try it out in the nearest future. I'll just have to remember to check my make-up regularly during the evening and go light on the champagne!

Will you be trying it out this Christmas?

This perfect sequin jacket will compliment anything black. And just about everything else really. If I owned it I think I'd wear it every single day if I could. Please Santa, this is a hint to you...

Ps. I'm slowly getting around to replying to your comments. Be patient with me, I know I'm slow haa.

Season Greetings From Alexa

What’s on your wish list this holiday season?
First and foremost, I would like a Pashley bike with a basket at the front, but I’m fairly certain I’ll be crushed by a London taxi within minutes of setting off. So second on my list would be a violin, because I really want to be part of an orchestra.

What are your plans for New Year’s Eve?
I will be spending New Year’s Eve with my boyfriend [Alex Turner]’s band [the Arctic Monkeys] and all the girlfriends in Sydney, Australia. I’m toying with the idea of D. J.-ing that night, but perhaps it would be better to enjoy a barbeque on the beach. Either way, fireworks need to featured heavily.

What are you most looking forward to in 2009?
I’m most looking forward to all of the music festivals in 2009. I really hope I can squeeze in Coachella again, because that was the best festival I’ve ever been to. I’d also love to attend Fuji Rock, because I’ve never been before.

What are you doing to avoid the effects of the recession?
I’m not doing anything to avoid the effects of the recession—if anything I’m spending more now. I just blew £1,500 on a Chanel bag. It made me want to be sick. But hopefully my spending will encourage others to spend, and then the economy will eventually get back on track.

If I Had Diane Kruger's Wardrobe...

...it would be easy as pie to get dressed for this Christmas' events. The only problem might be that I would have too many beautiful and stunning pieces to choose from. Ah, what a luxury problem!

Ps. I am very sorry that I haven't posted these last few days as I promised I would. I have been working a lot since it's close to Christmas + I'm ill + I haven't had internet access until now, so I hope I am excused. Thanks for reading, and I'll get back to all the great comments you've left me as soon as possible x x x

Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend

As we're a week into December, there's no denying that the Christmas sugary goodies and treats aren't far away from reach. This is the month where I have to be a clever girl and stick to my work-out routine. No slacking here. Flicking through the newest Paris Vogue edition, I saw this editorial which I would like to call a good dose of inspiration and motivation to stay loyal to my cardio and my strengthening exercises.

So one of my New Year's resolutions will be: always go to the gym looking like I've jumped right out of this stunning Vogue Paris editorial.

Haha yeah, fat chance, but a girl can dream!

Pretty Feathers Make Fine Birds

Do you want to steal some attention at the Christmas parties you're going to? I know you do!

Just follow this Cobrasnake girl's example and wear a large feather decoration in your hair. I think it looks absolutely brilliant, and it will make you stand out in the crowd.

Carrie's done it, so you know you want to aswell!

Just one word of advice, take it easy on the eyeshadow. Don't go too wild with it!

Questions & Answers, Part Un

As promised, here is the first part of the Questions & Answers. Hope you enjoy!

Q: If you could trade lives with anyone from anytime, who would it be?

A: This was definitely the most difficult question to answer. There are so many people that I admire and who I look up to, but the more I came to think about it, there was always something in their lives that wasn't perfect. But then again, perfect is plain and boring. It's the flaws that make you interesting and exciting. After much thought though, I chose Carine Roitfeld, Editor-in-Chief of the French edition of Vogue. The reason why I chose her is because she has achieved her dream, which is something to admire deeply. She works hard and she is great at what she does. Carine Roitfeld carries herself with such grace, elegance and respect, and she is such a fascinating woman. I also admire that she has been together with her husband for over thirty years, and that she has raised two beautiful, talented and independent children. I'd trade lives with her anyday!

Q: What made you start a blog and continue updating it?

A: To be honest, I just started this blog one day I was bored. It's not a very fabulous explanation, but it's the truth. I'd been reading a few blogs for a while, and I thought it looked like fun and interesting to have my own blog. And I love writing about fashion, and being in this cosy blogging community we have together so that's why I keep updating.
Q: Do you ever get sick of blogging?

A: No, I don't really get sick of blogging. There are days when I'm in the "no-posting" mood and there are days when I just don't have the time for it, but that doesn't have anything to do with me being sick of the blog. I really do love blogging so I don't think I'll get sick of it any time soon anyway!

Q: How much time do you spend on your blog and other blogs?

A: It varies a lot from day to day. Whenever I post it depends on the length, but in general I use about half an hour on a post. I really like to visit all of your blogs and read your posts, and I have to use this opportunity to say that so many of you are very talented in what you do! Some days I get to spend a lot of time on other blogs, other days I just don't have the time. But I think that I spend more time on all of your blogs than I do on my own haha!

Q: What is your favourite fragrance?
A: It has to be 212 Sexy by Carolina Herrera. I have been wearing it for ages, and it has kind of become my signature scent. I've stuck with it for so long because I've never received so many compliments for how I smell before I started using it. I also really love Be Delicious by DKNY and a few Vera Wang fragrances.
Q: What's your bag and what's in it?
A: I'm one of those girls who drool over designer bags, but who feel that they can't splurge on one. Though I have promised myself that one day I am going to treat myself to a Chanel 2.55 bag. I always keep changing bags, but right now I'm using a large black bag with stud detailing that I got from a thrift store. I try to keep my bag organized though I fail most of the time. I always have my mobile, wallet, ipod and camera with me. They are essentials. I usually carry the newest edition of Paris Vogue around with me. I treat it like a Bible haha! And I have a book in my bag just in case I've got nothing to do when I'm out, though this is never the case. So really, I'm just using up a lot of bag space, but I never learn. Right now I'm reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. Also, I bring make-up, perfume and a notebook with me.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: I'm one of those girls who can't get enough of basics. Plain t-shirts, blazers in different colours, jeans etc. are pieces of clothing that I never feel I can get enough of. So my style is pretty much based around simple and versatile pieces, but I love to add an element of surprise and something slightly unexpected to my outfits. Also, many of my friends say that I dress too formal at times..like I'm going to a fashion show or a party or something, but I love wearing pretty clothes. And why not treat every day like it's a party, eh? Life gets so much more fun that way.

Q: Is your style very eccentric or really simple?

A: I'd say it lies somewhere in between. As mentioned in the answer above, I tend to wear a lot of basics, but I love to add a piece that really pops out and makes the outfit interesting.

Q: Where do you want to live when you're older?

A: Definitely Paris! I love that city, and to be able to live there would be a dream come true. I'd like to live in New York too, though I've never actually been there so I can't say for certain that I would like to live there yet. I think it must be because of all the Sex & The City episodes that I've watched over and over (and over and over) again. I'm in love with how they've portrayed the city! I'd also like to live in Italy. I guess I'll have to get a career where I get the opportunity to travel a lot!

Q: How old are you?

A: I am 19 years old.

Q: Do you work with anything dealing with fashion?

A: No, I don't work with anything dealing with fashion. Not yet anyway, but I'd love to someday though. I have always wanted to work with something fashion related. So hopefully my dream will come true one day!

Q: Have you always been a writer/fashionista?

A: I have always loved to write. It's how I survive (without sounding too dramatic!) I have been writing for as long as I can remember, and I don't think I'll ever stop. As for being a fashionista, yes I think I have probably always been one. My mother told me this story about when I was two years old..she was walking through town with me when suddenly I pulled her hand hard and started dragging her to a window. In the window there were rows and rows of shoes, and I stood there just staring at them. She said that there wasn't anything that could take me away from that shop window, and she had to stand with me while I looked at the shoes for half an hour. No kidding. So I have always been a fashionista, at least from the age of two!

Part Deux of the Questions & Answers will be posted soon.

Have a great weekend lovelies xxx

Zac Posen, The Superhero

Zac Posen is already one of my superheroes, but if a rumour whispered to me is true, I think he might become my alltime favourite superhero. A little birdy told me that Zac Posen is planning to do a budget line. First Alexander McQueen for Target, then the news about Matthew Williamson working together with H&M and then this! Soon there's too much greatness to handle (but wonderful designers, please don't stop what you're doing for us "common" people who normally can't afford your stunning pieces!)

I do hope that these rumours are true. If so it is an early Christmas present to me and to many other happy Zac Posen fans.

Oh, please, please, pretty please with sugar on top, Zac, I'll love you forever and tattoo your name somewhere if you do this!

Ps. Part 1 of the Questions & Answers will be posted tomorrow, so if there are any last minute questions you'd like me to answer, just jot them down.

Red Is The New Black For Me

I might have mentioned before that one of my favourite colours is red. Even though I love the colour a lot, I do not wear it all that often, but strangely enough, during December I wear it quite often. My warm feelings for red becomes turn into a kind of obsession in the last month of the year. It's a strange habit of mine, and I have come to the conclusion that it must have something to do with the season we're in at the moment. Red is the Christmas colour after all!

So, as the Polyvore addict that I am (and I know I'm not alone), I decided to put together a few outfits, each with a red piece. I like dividing my collages into day and night because I often just swap out a few things before going out again. I just find that a lot easier, especially when I'm in a rush (which I am most of the time) than create a whole new outfit.

Do you wear a lot of red?

A Christmas Wish

Oh, how I wish Christophe Decarnin was Santa Claus!

Then he could bring me all these Balmain wonders in his big bag of presents. He would come inside, and we would talk fashion while the Christmas night slowly fades into Christmas day. With beautiful music playing in the background, Christophe tells me to put on one piece after the other, so that I can twirl around in the clothes and dance slowly to the music like it would last forever and ever. Like it only is in dreams...

If you could choose any designer to be Santa, who would it be?

A December Make-Over

As some of you might see, I've made a few changes to the blog. I thought this day was a good day to do some things on Style Spot, like for instance make a new header and sort out the sidebar a bit better. After all it is the 1st of December, and I thought that you, the blog and I deserve a new and fresh breath of air here. Don't you agree?

So (just in case you've forgotten), I've gone from this header...

to this one...

Do you like the changes? Or did you like the old header more? Give me plenty of feedback so that I can make Style Spot a bigger and better blog.
Hope you're all having a great 1st of December. The countdown has officially begun yaay xxx

November's Style Inspiration
Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie. She was bound to end up as one of the style inspirations at some point. As so many others, I have admired Nicole's transformation when it comes to her style. There's no denying how she used to dress back in the day, and when I look at pictures of her old style it's strange to think that it is the same person who now ends up on the best dressed lists again and again. I think so many love Nicole's style because it's simple, but very chic. It's quite girly, but at the same time it's edgy. She looks comfortable in what she wears and therefore it looks absolutely great on her. Nicole is a true style inspiration. Which November look is your favourite?

Want To Know Something About Me?

...then you just have to ask. As a part of the daily December posts, I have decided to include a Q&A post. Your questions, my answers. I've never done this on Style Spot before, so if there's anything you'd like to know about me or the blog or anything, this is the time to ask. Just write down your questions in a comment or e-mail me (stylespot@hotmail.com). And remember: the more the merrier!

The Blogger Style Icons

Part Eight, Ashleigh

I bet most of you know of the gorgeous Ashleigh from the blog I Am Ashleigh, but if you don't you're really missing out on a wonderful and sweet girl with impeccable style. Not only does she wear amazing outfits, which stretches from boho chic to "wangster" grunge, and that many of us want to copy, but she also has an amazing personality. By looking at the photographs on her blog, it really shines through that she is a woman with a golden heart. Ashleigh is one of those girls who are the perfect examples of being "beautiful both on the inside aswell as the outside". Check it out for yourself...

Describe your everyday style
I'm usually pretty casual. I tend to keep the heels for night time and going out, and wear flats/boots/sandals everyday as I am just always bouncing around to new adventures. I'm definitely split in two when it comes to everyday. If the weather is warm, I tend to look towards the bohemian type of look with loose tops, lace florals and tans, but I definitely have a soft spot for the more grungier looks and that's when I reach for the tartan, the black boots, black jeans and black! I definitely wear a lot of black. I've always been a bit of a girly rocker.

Describe your party style
I don't change too much from everyday Ashleigh to party Ashleigh. I really like to stay true to myself and I don't dress up just because I feel I have to. I tend to wear a lot of black and that normally keeps me on the safe side. Oh and perhaps a couple more accessories and definitely some killer heels, that I normally regret after hours of dancing.

What kind of accessories do you use the most?
I always have my Ray Ban wayfarers on me at all times! I tend to wear the same jewellery every day, which is a mixture of gold and silver. My most loved at the moment is a studded bracelet that you would have to pry from my arm.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
I am such a blog stalker! I love stomping around the blogosphere looking for great looks. Because I'm normally in a different season from many of the bloggers around the world, I always keep my favourite photos in one big file and as the seasons change I start to look back through them. I normally buy and flip through a stack of magazines once a month. But it's not just that I love. Different era's and a past rock star, movie star or model can just as easily inspire me as anyone else. I have a stack of photography books which always come in handy. And I'm a sucker for a Mary-Kate fan site too.

Favourite designers
I really want to sound like I know my designers off by heart, but I don't! The fashion giants stand out like Alexander Wang. I'm a massive fan of what he creates. But local designers like Alice McCall, State of Georgia, Lover and Josh Goot definitely make me proud to be an Aussie. Oh and you can't go past Zimmermann for their absolutely amazing swimwear!

Favourite style icons
I really find something inspiring in "real people", like bloggers and people on the street. I like the sense that the style is actually achieveable, so they are probably my first go to. But I'm going with the obvious ones: I am such an embarassingly obsessed Mary-Kate fan. Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Chloe Sevigny. But I like to take a part of their style and make it my own. As much as we hate to admit it, these girls pioneer what we wear just as much as designers do.

Favourite places to shop?
I'm completely on a student budget so all the chain stores are fairly good to grab something cheap from and then splurge on a nice bag, necklace or shoes to add to it and really make it your own style. Sportsgirl, Bardot, General Pants, Cotton On. I love cheap overseas manufactured clothing for that disposable fashion and then the cheapies like Target, Kmart and Big W! Ebay was once an obsession of mine which I steer clear of now. I love op shops! Not the overpriced ones, but the Salvation Army, Savers/Value Village. I have found gold in these! And of course, American Apparel.

Best shopping tip
If you love it, leave it. If you're still thinking about it the next day, you're free to spend as you please. I live by that (well, most of the time).

Favourite piece of clothing
My leather bomber jacket. My absolute saviour!

Favourite pair of shoes
I'm going with my Oxford lace ups from Ebay right now. They're pretty much connected to my feet. They give me that bit of edge when I'm wearing nothing but shorts and a plain tee. There's nothing better than shoes with attitude!

Favourite accessory
Anything with studs! And over the knee socks!

Best styling tip
My friends dress completely different to me, gosh, they probably hate my style. I used to feel influenced by this and I would change my style when I was around them. I've now learnt to love that I am different, that perhaps my outfit makes people look at me for good or bad. Always be yourself. No matter how you don't think you'll "fit the mould" of those around you, you'll always feel much worse trying to fit in when you were born to stand out.
